The Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, National University of Laos, and the Laboratory of Vector-Borne Diseases and Pathogen Ecology, College of Wildlife and Protected Areas, Northeast Forestry University, Harbin, China, have collaborated to support a PhD research project entitled “Surveillance of Tick Diversity and Emerging Tick-Borne Pathogens in Domestic Animals, Wildlife, and Forest Habitats Along the Lao–China Border”, and a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) was signed on 08 January 2026.

 Access to and use of genetic resources (hard ticks: Rhipicephalus, Haemaphysalis, Ixodes, and Amblyomma) at the Lao–China border in Luang Namtha Province.

1. Research results and related publications must be shared with local partners and the Lao ABS Authority to acknowledge the providers of the genetic resources
2. This permission is granted for use in the above-mentioned research only
3. If further experiments involving the genetic resources mentioned above are developed for commercialization, the Laboratory of Vector-Borne Diseases and Pathogen Ecology, College of Wildlife and Protected Areas, Northeast Forestry University, Harbin, China, must inform the national contact point and/or the ABS Authority to discuss and establish mutually agreed terms (MAT).

The collected samples mentioned above are not allowed to be shared with a third party without permission from the Lao ABS authority. 

Additional Information
 The specimens of hard ticks belong to the genera Rhipicephalus, Haemaphysalis, Ixodes, and Amblyomma. Approximately 1,000–10,000 ticks will be exported from Lao PDR to the Laboratory of Vector-Borne Diseases and Pathogen Ecology, College of Wildlife and Protected Areas, Northeast Forestry University, Harbin, China, for analysis using entomological techniques, DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing of pathogen genes.
